Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire Walkthrough (Complete)

Verdanturf Town
-----------------------

Head west from Mauville City. You'll
spot a building with a man outside,
and behind, lots of Pokemon. This is
the daycare centre where you can
send two of your Pokemon to gain
some levels. However, if the two are
in the same egg group, they may
also produce an egg. Continue west -
there's a Revive behind the Cut
bush, a Great Ball beyond the patch
of flowers, and a hidden Repel near
there. When you reach Verdanturf
Town, go to the red contest house
and pick up a Contest Pass - this
allows you to participate in any
contest around Hoenn. The lady in
the top right corner will also give
you TM45 - Attract. Next, enter the
cave to the left of the PokeMart.

Fallarbor Town
-------------------

Head north from Mauville City. You'll
spot a house with a man standing
outside of it - this is the Winstrate
family. As the name suggests (Win
straight, har har), you have to win 4
consecutive battles and you'll earn a
Macho Brace from the family when
you talk to the lady. Afterwards,
proceed north, using Rock Smash on
the two boulders there. You'll see a
desert with a sandstorm brewing -
you won't be able to pass without
Go-Googles. Head west from the
desert.

You'll see two Aqua/Magma Grunts
blocking the entrance to a cable car,
so you'll have to go through the
Fiery Path just to the left of that.
There's a boulder that you can use
Strength on, but you won't be able
to as you don't have Lavaridge's
Heat Badge. Follow the path out
(you'll see another entrance into the
desert on the way) until you meet a
boy staring at a tree. Talk to him,
and you'll get TM43 - Secret Power,
which can be used to make your very
own Secret Base. See the Secret
Base Guide for more information.
Further on, a lady will give you a
berry, and there's a rest stop to heal
up before continuing west onto
Fallarbor Town.

You'll reach an area where ash is
falling from the sky. Continue
onwards until you reach a house. Go
inside and grab a Soot Sack from the
man. Collect soot by walking around
the grass; when you have collected
enough soot, you can return to the
man and he'll make special Glass
items for you. There is a hidden
Ether, a Super Repel and a Max
Ether along the way. There's also
TM32 - Double Team hidden in a
small mound of ash just west of the
Glass Workshop.


Check out the Fallarbor PokeCenter.
Talk to the girl standing by the PC -
that's Lanette, the inventor of the
Hoenn Pokemon Storage System.
There's also a contest house in
Fallarbor Town, but unique to here
is the Move Tutor's place. The Move
Tutor teaches Pokemon naturally
learnt moves they have previously
forgotten for one Heart Scale. And if
you're strapped for cash, check out
the crater in the middle of town for
a hidden Nugget.

Meteor Falls
----------------

Visit the first house you come to
after heading west from Fallarbor -
this is the Fossil Maniac's house. If
you talk to the little girl by the hole,
she'll give you TM28 - Dig. This is a
very important move that you should
NOT delete as it is needed to
complete the Regi sidequest.
Continuing on, a man near the
house will give you TM05 - Roar.
Head south, and the building there
is Lanette's House. She'll give you a
Lotad Doll (If you're playing
Sapphire) or a Seedot Doll (If you're
playing Ruby). The lady outside will
also give you a Nanab Berry. Head
up the rocky ledge to the left (The
item behind the Rock Smash boulder
is a Protein) and follow the path
into the entrance of Meteor Falls.

Head straight up the stairs for a Full
Heal, then across the bridge to
proceed with the storyline. You'll
see Team Aqua/Magma cornering
Professor Cozmo for the Meteorite,
but their rivals (Magma is Sapphire,
Aqua in Ruby) will show up and
chase them off. Talk to Cozmo, then
pick up an important Moon Stone to
the left. Exit to the south. There's a
Great Ball here, and if you head
further south you'll reach Rustboro
City. Head back to the Fiery Path
(North of Mauville City), but this
time round, the cable car that was
previously blocked should now be
accessible. Ride it to the top of the
mountain.

Mt Chimney
---------------

You'll see all these Magma and Aqua
Members fighting it out with their
Poochyena. Head to the northwest
corner of the crater where Archie/
Maxie is trying to use the Meteorite
to manipulate the volcano. You'll
have to beat two of their minions
before facing off against the leaders
- both are quite easy, but Archie/
Maxie might be a bit tough - they
each a lv24 Mightyena, lv24 Golbat
and Archie has a lv25 Sharpedo,
while Maxie has a lv25 Camerupt. Be
on guard, they'll use Super Potions
for recovery.

The opposition leader will thank you
for your efforts once the battle is
over, and you're free to wander
around. Inspect the weird machine
and choose to take the Meteorite.
There's nothing else to do here, so
head down the stairs by the cable
car that was previously blocked.
If you actually head down the stairs,
then immediately go back to Mt
Chimney, you'll see a whole bunch
of trainers and people have arrived

Lavaridge Town
---------------------

The small stones around the place
can actually be bounced on by the
Acro Bike, so you can climb up
ledges that you've jumped down.
There's a Burn Heal on the far right
of the path, otherwise nothing much
else to get. The exit at the south
leads straight to Lavaridge Town.

The lady standing by the hot springs
will give you a Wynaut Egg if you
talk to her. The house to the right of
the gym is the Lavaridge Herb Shop,
so take a look around - the old man
standing around will give you a free
Charcoal if you talk to him. You can
sit in the hot springs for no
apparent reason if you want to,
otherwise head to the gym for your
fourth badge.

Navigating your way around the gym
might be a bit tough, so here's a
map for your convenience. Just follow
the numbers and you'll reach
Flannery. The section on the left is
the top level; the one of the right is
the basement. Flannery's Pokemon
aren't that tough, but watch out for
Overheat which will be dealing out a
lot of damage. Grass, Bug and Steel
Pokemon are weak to Fire, while
Water, Rock and Ground are super-
effective against them. Watch out for
Torkoal's White Smoke which
prevents stat loss.


When you defeat Flannery, she'll
give you the Heat Badge which
makes all lv50 Pokemon and below
obey you, and allows you to use
HM04 - Strength outside of battle.
You'll also receive TM50 - Overheat,
which deals a lot of damage, but
lowers your own Special Attack.

Route 111 Desert
-----------------------

As soon as you exit Lavaridge Gym,
your neighbour will appear and give
you Go-Googles - these allow you to
explore the Route 111 Desert, so
head there now. As you head down
the ledges to the east of Lavaridge
Town, grab a Nugget just off screen
to the north.

Head up the stairs and into Fiery
Path. Now that you can use Strength
outside of battle, you can grab some
goodies inside - use Strength on the
boulder and solve the little puzzle -
the north chamber has TM06 - Toxic,
the south chamber has a Fire Stone.
Exit and head to the Route 11
Desert.

The sandy shelves (the places where
you leave footprints if you walk) are
where wild Pokemon live. You'll see
from your first battle that Sandstorm
will automatically start, and won't
vanish after five turns. There are
heaps of items lying around - inspect
bare patches of sand, lone rocks and
other suspicious looking places -
there's a Protein, two Stardust and a
Rare Candy available, and also TM37
- Sandstorm at the southernmost
point of the desert. On the way
there you'll see a large rock
surrounded by six rocks in a
hexagonal pattern - this is part of
the Regi Sidequest, and you can find
out more by reading the Legendaries
Guide.

The most important items here,
however, are the fossils located in
the north east corner of the desert.
The left fossil, the Root Fossil, will
become Lileep when you give it to
the Devon Scientist in Rustboro. The
right fossil, the Claw Fossil, will
become Anorith.

You can only take one however -
doing so causes the other one to
sink into the sand. If you have the
Mach Bike, you can speed up the
mudslide to the left of the fossils
(near the other exit), and there's a
trainer you can fight for some
money/experience. The next stop is
Petalburg City Gym...

Petalburg City Gym
-------------------------

The gym has many different kinds of
battle rooms, and the style of battle
that the trainer uses is dependant
on what kind of room it is, for
example, the Defense Room utilises
the X Defend item to boost Defense
during the battle. Once you've
defeated the trainer, either one or
two doors will open allowing you to
continue.

This is tough. Slaking and Vigoroth
will be dealing out severe damage,
and watch out if you try to poison,
burn or paralyse them, they'll pay
twice as much damage back with
Facade. And if things weren't hard
enough, they'll use Yawn to put your
Pokemon to sleep. Vigoroth, with
Vital Spirit, cannot be put to sleep,
but Slaking, with Truant, will not
attack every second round - that will
be your chance to recover or attack.
And just when you think you're
about to faint them, Norman will
pull out a Hyper Potion. Good types
for this battle are Fighting and
Ghost - Rock and Steel types, be
careful of Focus Punch.

When you defeat Norman, he'll give
you the Balance Badge which
increases the Defense of all your
Pokemon, and allows you to use
HM03 - Surf outside of battle. You'll
also receive TM42 - Facade, which
deals double damage if you are
burned, poisoned or paralysed.

Exploring with Surf
--------------------------


First, visit the house next door to
the gym - it's Wally's House. Talk to
his Dad, and he'll give you HM03 -
Surf. Now, head back to Littleroot
Town and visit Mom. She'll notice
the Balance Badge from Dad, and
give you the Amulet Coin.

Now that you have Surf, there are
many places you can access.

1. Use Surf in the lake in Petalburg City
to grab one Ether and a hidden Rare
Candy.

2. There's a PP Up on the east side of
the lake by the Pretty Petal Flower
Shop on Route 109.

3. Secret Peninsula - Head north from
Rustboro City and use Surf by the
beach. Continue past the rocks and
you'll see a beach to land. There are
some Kelpsy Berries, TM01 - Focus
Punch and if you have the Mach
Bike, you can get an Iron. The patch
of grass is the only place where
you'll find Jigglypuff.

4. Routes 105, 106, 107, 108 and 109
can now be explored.

5. The Abandoned Ship on Route 108
can be accessed, although you will
need HM08 - Dive to access another
part of the ship. Click here for a

6. You may now travel from Oldale to
Slateport City via Route 103.

7. There's a Rare Candy in an island by
Cycling Road.

8. Watton's New Mauville Sidequest
becomes available.

9. There's an HP Up beyond the lake
near the Winstrate Family House.

Route 118 - The Weather Institute
---------------------------------------------

Head east
from
Mauville.
Note this
unusual
minor detail
that the
programmers
seem to
have
missed: The
Aroma Lady
you fight
just east of
Mauville
that is
standing by
the ledge -
approach
her from the
left, and she
should walk
'up' the
ledge when
she notices
you. Once
she's stuck
there, you
can 'jump'
over her as
shown in
the
animation.

But enough of trivial programming
mistakes, continue east and use Surf
to get across the river. There's a
Heart Scale in one of the suspicious-
looking lone rocks on the west side
of the beach, and if you talk to the
fisherman on the east side of the
beach, he'll give you a Good Rod.
You'll also see Steven around, but
he won't do anything significant.
Continue east, grabbing a Hyper
Potion from the ledge, and an Ultra
Ball from behind the fence right
before you reach two twins. The
house near there is the Berry
Master's house - there's a patch of 6
berry plants adjacent to the
building, and inside, the Berry
Master himself will give you some
berries to plant. You can also tell
the Berry Master's wife certain
phrases, and she will give you a
berry: Try out "Overwhelming Latias",
"Cool Latios", "Challenge Contest",
"Super Hustle" and "Great Battle".

Return to the intersection (where
two Bird Keepers are) and head
north. There are random areas of
continuous rain clouds that hover
around Routes 118, 119 and 120.
You'll notice that when you battle
during a rain storm, Rain Dance is
automatically set up and will
continue without stopping. You'll
also come across "tall grass", you'll
still find wild Pokemon there, but
your walk rate will be slower and you
can't ride a bike through. Make your
way through - there's a Hyper Potion
on the right and a Super Repel on
the left. Surf over the lake and grab
a Zinc. Head north (If you go
through the long grass and over the
plank bridge with the Acro Bike,
inspect the flower by the waterfall to
get a Calcium), cross the wooden
bridge and simply follow the path
north. Grab a Hyper Potion and Elixir
on the way, and you'll eventually
reach a large building. Since there's
no where else to go, head inside.
If you examine the bed in the top
left room, you can take a nap and
heal your Pokemon. You can also
access your PC for items and
Lanette's PC for Pokemon. Beat the
two Team Aqua/Magma Grunts on
the ground floor, and head up the
stairs. Beat the Grunts and the
Admin, and you'll free the scientist.
As a reward, he'll give you Castform
with a Mystic Water attached -
Castform is a special Pokemon that
transforms according to the current
weather.

Heal and head outside. Cross the
bridge and surf south all the way
until you reach some rocks - the
item there is a vital Leaf Stone. Now
head from the bridge and your
neighbour will show up and battle
you. You'll receive HM02 - Fly if you
are victorious. Keep heading north
and you'll reach Fortree City.

Fortree City
----------------

Fortree City is nestled in trees. The
houses are huts on the roof of the
forest. Starting from the house by
the PokeCenter, the kid inside will
trade a Skitty for your Pikachu. Next
door, the lady will give you TM10 -
Hidden Power if you can correctly
answer her questions. The gym is
currently blocked by some unknown
force, so continue onwards - the last
two huts have nothing on interest,
so head to the second row of huts to
the south. The hut on the right sells
several decorations for your secret
base, and the left hut has nothing
of interest. Heal up, and head east
out of Fortree City. Follow the path
round and cross the bridge. You'll
meet Steven - if you try to go past
him, you'll see that..there is
something unseeable in the way.
Talk to him, and he'll tell you to get
ready for battle - make sure you
have a Great Ball or Ultra Ball,
because you'll fight a rare lv30
Kecleon. Afterwards, Steven will give
you the Devon Scope, which
identifies camouflaged Kecleon, and
you can return to Fortree Gym to
move the Kecleon out of the way.

Fortree Gym
----------------

The gym is full of switching gates
that will rotate after you've passed
through them. Once they've rotated,
they block one path but open a new parth.

The battle is relatively easy -
basically any Rock, Electric and Ice
Pokemon should be able to take out
the entire team. Watch out for
Altaria's Earthquake however. Flying
is super effective against Grass, Bug
and Fighting Pokemon. Make use of
Pelipper's and Altaria's 4x weakness
to Electric and Ice respectively to
really dish out damage.

When you defeat Winona, she'll give
you the Feather Badge which makes
all lv70 Pokemon and below obey
you, and allows you to use HM02 -
Fly outside of battle. You'll also
receive TM40 - Aerial Ace, which hits
regardless of accuracy and evade
modifiers.

Lilycove City
----------------

Continue east from Fortree City and
use the Devon Scope on the path
leading down to the water. The item
is a Nest Ball, and if you Surf across
the lake into the cave (Scorched
Slab), you can pick up TM11 - Sunny
Day. North of that path, there's two
Cut bushes that will lead you to a
hidden Rare Candy. To continue,
just follow the path all the way
down - it should start raining some
where along here too. Make your way
through the maze of long grass -
there'll be some hidden Kecleon
along the way so just use the Devon
Scope to identify them. There's a
Nugget and a Hyper Potion on the
way. You'll eventually reach the end
of the rain storm around a wooden
bridge. If you head west from the
bridge and up to the ledge, you'll
spot a ninja by some tall grass.
Traverse through that grass and
you'll reach another suspicious-
looking set of rocks, like the ones
you saw at the Route 111 Desert.
This is to do with the Regi Quest.

In any case, once you can't head
further south, start heading east and
you'll come across some Team Aqua/
Magma members who will announce
that they're moving to Mt Pyre. A bit
further east and you'll see the Safari
Zone entrance. While it isn't
necessary to visit the Safari Zone to
continue with the storyline, there
are some good Pokemon inside that
you might want to catch - for more
information, click here. You'll also
see a jetty leading to Mt Pyre, but
you'll be returning here soon. Head
to Lilycove City to the east, picking
up a Carbos and a hidden Nugget
(lower left corner of the area after
the Cut bush) along the way.
Lilycove City is much like Goldenrod
from GSC or Celadon from RBY.
There's a MegaMart here with a
range of items, decorations and
utilities for you and your Pokemon.
There's a Museum where you can
put a picture of your Pokemon
should it win a contest. You can also
visit the Move Deleter to remove
unwanted HM moves as such.
There's a harbour where the SS Tidal
will take you to Slateport City, but
only after you have beaten the Elite
Four. Lilycove City is where the
Master Rank Contests are held, so
check that out too.

If you approach the MegaMart you'll
see your neighbour blocking the
entrance, and the only way to get
them out of the way is to beat them
in a battle. There's a Max Repel at
the southeastern end of town, by the
strange white structure. You can get
a berry from the Gentleman walking
around in the northeast corner of
town, and TM44 - Rest from the
house off the ledge to him. If you
head down to the beach and inspect
the lone rocks, you can also grab a
Heart Scale. You'll see that the
western sea exit is blocked, and that
inside the cave, the Aqua/Magma
Grunts won't let you pass, so the
only other thing to do is to head
back to the jetty near the Safari
Zone and surf south.

Mount Pyre
---------------

You'll want to explore the building
before going outside to the sacred
shrine. Talk to the old lady in the
back corner of the room to get a
Cleanse Tag, then head up the stairs
at the back of the building.

On the second floor, there's an Ultra
Ball, third is a Super Repel and
finally at the top, there's TM30 -
Shadow Ball. You'll be able to reach
those blocked-off areas of the
buildings now, by going through the
holes in the ground. There's the Lax
Incense and Sea Incense on the way
down. Once you're at the base level,
where you first entered, take the exit
to the left and you'll find yourself on
Mt Pyre's misty slopes.

Make your way up to the top. Grab
TM48 - Skill Swap and a Max Potion
along the way, and inspect golden
tombstones for hidden items like
Max Ethers and Ultra Balls. When
you reach the next area, make the
Aqua/Magma Grunt walk as far as
possible so that you can gain access
to the path behind him - there's a
Zinc there. You'll reach the top, only
to find Archie/Maxie has sucessfully
obtained a magic orb! You'll receive
the other corresponding orb (Blue
Orb in Sapphire, Red Orb in Ruby).
Head back to the entrance, and surf
south.

Cut through the bush a bit to the
south and east to get a Rare Candy.
The girl by the berry plants will give
you TM19 - Giga Drain. Inspect lone
rocks and clear patches of grass -
you can obtain a Hyper Potion and
Super Repel that way. There's also
an Elixir and a Calcium. You'll
eventually reach the Berry Master's
House again, and since there's
nothing else to do, head to Slateport
City.
